BIOGRAPHY
Soundtrack to a Revolution is a Hip-Hop band founded by producer Jon Shea in Tampa, FL. The band derives its influences from a wide range of genres including jazz, funk, r&b, chillstep, EDM, trip-hop, and many other styles. Performances are packed with live instruments, heavy electronic elements, and synths.
Over three years ago, producer Jon Shea, began working on an arrangement of John Coltrane's "Giant Steps." While grabbing dinner at the local hang on Davis Island he ran into Stanley Steema and was caught off guard by the amazing resemblance of Steema to Coltrane. Jon approached Stanley and asked if he knew who John Coltrane was and Stanley replied, "of course, I am a musician." After finding out that Stanley was an MC Jon invited him over to his apartment to hear the track. Stanley laid down the first verse to "Giant Steps" that evening.
At that time Thomas Griggs was attending Berklee College of Music in Boston. Jon and Thomas had been sending tracks back and forth from Boston to Davis Island and came up with the reharmonization to "Giant Steps." The goal of the song was to make one of the most difficult songs ever written singable to anyone without them knowing it was Coltrane's "Giant Steps."
Upon completion of the first track "Giant Steps," the group went on to record an album spanning as many genres as possible while staying true to their hip-hop sound. "Soundtrack to a Revolution" was recorded using some of the best musicians in Tampa. The majority of the instrumentation however is multi-instrumentalist and producer Jon Shea.
